october arrived in this ancient forest on the back of howling winds and heavy rain
during the night i woke from my sleep every time my body needed to change position because it hurts to turn over and so i would lay for a while listening to the wind and rain through the open window~it sounded just wonderful and i would smile into the darkness.

i adore the wild weather that autumn and winter bring us~to me the warm days of summer are so very still with heat and nothing more blanketing the land.
but the wild wind, rain, sparking frosts and snow are another matter altogether~it makes me feel alive and in an odd way motivated to embrace the inner contemplation that the increasing darkness this time brings.
it feels as if i have woken from a summer hibernation~for many days in the summer it was too hot for me to even sit in the garden and when i did i would follow the shade of the forsythia around the garden or retreat inside where the curtains was closed against the sun. swmapy has decided that before the return of summers heat he is going to have a small pergola built over our small patio~we already have an evergreen jasmine growing up the back wall of the house which will grow wonderfully over any structure in its way and against the fence a rambling rose~i can see in my minds eye these two plants climbing and joining to create a wonderful bower under which i can meditate and journal on those too hot days.
but for now i have the wind and rain~we have yet to have our first frost. it was almost here a few days ago but not quite. i looked out at a cold dew that on first glimpse gave the impression of a light frost~but no, not yet.
the trees and bushes are laden with fruit~bright spots of red and purple in the green~and many trees are still holding onto green leaves~it was the same last year and we had a hard winter and i am convinced it will be the same this year too.
