~poems & past posting~

good afternoon dear bloggers

after a few nice sunny days the new forest has become grey and chilly-i am not happy because i had an alert this morning from aurora watch stating a red alert for being able to see the aurora borealis, possibly this far south.
no chance of that now!

i hope you like the poem i now have at the top of my blog.
it was written for my by my dear friend who not only weaves magic with words but creates the most beautiful jewellery in the world.
you really must drop by and have a look at her place

well now

Evangeline is my bicycle~some of you here remember when i bought her, but for my new readers here is her story...

she is a french Motobecane who lived her life in northern france, spending her last years being ridden around paris by a girl who could not bare to leave her behind when she returned to england.
however once here she languished in a garage until she was put up for sale.

at the time our home on wheels was pippin, our converted french h-van and i thought they would made a perfect couple so i bought her.

we cleaned her up a little, replaced the breaks, added a bell and basket then swampy sprayed her with clear lacquer-perfectly preserving all her little dents and dings.

see this here...

this is not an original part of the bike and this is what i wrote in my blog post back in may 2009...

...looking closely i realised that it was not original to the bike, so naturally i had to do some investigation and discovered that it is some kind of hand stamped token/icon (i cant find the right word here!) from an Augustinian nunnery in Avesnes in France. being the kind of person who loves to check maps i had a look for Avesnes
only to discover it is close to where my great grandfather Johney Gaul died and is buried.
i have to say that freaked me out, not in a bad way though
given the distance he is buried from family, what are the odd's i have just bought a bike or at least an 'add-on' from so close to where he lived his last days

so you see Evangeline is special to me, i think she was meant to be with me.
